Facebook uses EdgeRank, an algorithm that determines where your post shows up in the newsfeed of your fans and for how long. There are 3 main components that will affect the value of your posts.
Weight: Posts with videos or photos are considered more valuable than posts with plain text or links. The visual content will therefore rank higher in the newsfeed. EdgeRank also takes the level of interaction into account. If many fans engage with your post, the overall reach will increase.
Decay: Facebook is all about finding the latest and most relevant information as it happens. Most of the engagements happens minutes after publishing (which is also true for Twitter and Instagram). Content quickly loses value as time passes to avoid irrelevant posts showing up on your feed.
Affinity: EdgeRank will measure how connected you are with the user or brand. Facebook will deliver relevant content based on your ongoing relationship including any relationship your friends have with a certain page.
It’s one thing to get informed on social media best practices, now it’s time to apply what you learn to encourage engagement and spike interest!
If you’re really ”BOUT THAT LIFE” you can even add text to your images so your fans will know what your post is about right away.
